Work in Progress

Or more accurately, completed.  Here's the finished top.  I still need to get it outside in the sun to get a decent photo ...

Design Wall Monday - July 28

I had a really productive day yesterday. I got a new quilt loaded on the long arm, and a good start on it. Going to be a long process, but I'm still hoping to finish up the quilts I have on hand before the 20th.

In between sessions with the long arm, I started into my new project.  I love these fabrics - the colours are gorgeous and my poor photography skills, indoors at night, just don't do them justice. I was drooling over these fabrics at the shop on Saturday and ended up bringing them home to make a sample for the shop.

Here's what I got done yesterday.  Just have to sew all the blocks together, and add the border. There's a wonderful border fabric in the set which I'll be using.

Stash Report - July 27

I managed to avoid buying any new fabric this week. That doesn't mean I don't have a new project, however. There's always something new to play with around here.

And I finished a project this week, too. My Metro Lattice top is now complete. That's 7 1/2 yards used.

 Stash totals for the year:
458 1/2 yards in
120 yards out
Total: 338 1/2 yards in

Oh Drat!

I was working on the block of the week - at midnight Friday night, as usual.  All finished, pressed the seams, and as I slipped it into the bag I took a good look at it.   Something's not right here ...

Time for the seam ripper.

Much better!

And now it is obviously past time to stop sewing for the night.

Design Wall Monday - July 21

I have some real progress to share today, on my design wall.  Not sure what happened, but I had a seriously productive sewing weekend the past 2 days.  I finished the top for the Ottawa Modern Quilt Guild summer challenge.  I have plans for the back, and will get that done soon I hope.  I don't think the challenge is due until January, but I am hoping to have it done for the September meeting.  Will depend whether I can get some time on the longarm for my own quilts :)

I also made great progress on my Metro Lattice quilt this weekend.  It's really starting to come together. All the curves are sewn. I had planned to make it one row wider, and I checked and double checked that I had enough fabric to cut the extra lattice pieces I needed.  And after I cut them I discovered that I'm 2 blocks short :(  So, the quilt stays the original size, I guess.  There's still a chance that will change - I had planned to use that fabric for the border, too, and now I'm out. So it'll either be a scrappy yellow border, or I'll try to pick up some more of the light grey this week.

Stash Report

I managed to stay out of the quilt shop 2 weeks ago, but I wasn't quite so strong this week.  They had a "Christmas in July" sale, so I had to drop by.  I did manage to limit myself to a single project only.  And maybe I can even finish one before I buy fabric for another new one, this time.  I have a few small projects in the list which give me some hope for that plan.

Stash in this week:
7 1/4 yards

Stash totals for the year:
458 1/2 yards in
112 1/2 yards out
Total: 346  yards in

Progress

My latest quilt is starting to look like something, now.  Lots more to do, but I'm inspired to get a move on. Just bought some new fabric at the "Christmas in July" sale, and I want to make a tree skirt from it.  Need to start on that, before Christmas is here.  Given my production rate lately, I'm probably pushing my luck on that :)

I also have another quilt in progress.  The only thing keeping it from being done already is the need to change thread colours on my machine. Need to get this one done before September, so I should probably bite the bullet and just swap the thread tomorrow and get it done.

New Quilting Design

A while back I was looking for a modern design for my quilting, and trying to decide if I could find, or create, a pantograph that would work for me.  Trouble was, the design I had in my head was full of straight lines - and with a pantograph followed with a laser light, I knew I would never get the crisp lines and corners I was looking for.

I happened to mention my search to the wonderful people at Loricles Quilting.  I previously bought some templates from them which I love - particularly my swirls pattern.

Michael and I chatted a bit, and after exchanging a few diagrams back and forth, we came up with a new modern quilting design that I love.  It's different - better - than what I originally had in mind.  Michael did a great job taking my vision and turning it into something wonderful.  I now have a new modern template - in 2 sizes - to add to my collection.

I did this quilt using that template, and am looking forward to a few more already in the pipeline.

WIP Wednesday

My Metro Lattice quilt is coming along, slowly but surely.  I even have all of the little oval pieces sewn, for the sections I've cut so far.  But they don't fit on the design wall. It's nice to be back in the sewing room a bit, although I did avoid both the upstairs sewing room and the long arm yesterday.  Back to it tonight, so I can hold to my promised schedule for the current quilt on the long arm.

I'm linking up over at the Needle and Thread Network, and Freshly Pieced today.

Design Wall Monday - July 7

I actually have something on my design wall today. I spent a good part of Sunday in the sewing room, working on my current project.  Doesn't look like much yet, but I think it's going to be wonderful once the rest of the bits get up there.  I'm working on Metro Lattice by Sew Kind of Wonderful.

Stash Report - July 6

Let's see if I can remember the last couple of weeks, since I've been a bit absent ont he blog and haven't posted a stash report recently.

6 yards - for a "one block wonder"
1/4 yard - for a "paint chip challenge" - I had the other 3 fabrics I need, so at least I shopped my stash first :)
2 3/4 yards - for a guild challenge
2 1/2 yards - a backup option for the challenge.

I think that covers it - 11 1/2 yards in over the past 2 weeks. And absolutely nothing to count out. Although I did at least get some time in the sewing room yesterday. Maybe I'll get photos of that posted for the design wall tomorrow.

Stash totals for the year:
451 1/4 yards in
112 1/2 yards out
Total: 338 3/4  yards in

Happy Canada Day!

Happy Canada Day, to all my Canadian readers.  I hope you have fun plans for the day.  I am going to get my sewing room cleaned up, finish a quilt on the longarm, and hopefully do some stitching on a project of my own today.  And maybe, just maybe, venture outside for a few minutes to celebrate - but it looks awfully hot out there today.
