Design Wall Monday

All caught up! In fact, I think I'm a bit ahead now.  September's step was to sew the blocks into rows. I went ahead and sewed the rows together, so that should give me a jump start on October when it comes out.

Now if only I could find the book I need for the next class I'm supposed to teach, I'd be all set for my next project (class samples). I may be forced to clean the sewing room, in order to find that book.

Stash Report

I broke down this week and bought a jelly roll, to go with some printed batiks I have.  That's 2.75 yards in - never realized how big a jelly roll actually is :)
I did use 3 fat quarters plus some neutral fabric for some class samples. Not finished quilts, but as finished as they are getting, so I'm counting that 1.25 yards out.

I've also been plugging along on Judy's mystery.  All caught up to the August clue, so that leaves me almost on track.  3 more days this month to finish the September clue.

Stash totals for the year:
468 1/4 yards in
175 1/2 yards out
Total: 292 3/4 yards in

Tell it to the Stars Progress

I have been working away on my Tell it to the Stars mystery blocks.  All the stars are made and I am all the way caught up to July. Working on the August blocks now, and it looks like I might even be completely caught up before October arrives. The blocks need rearranging still, and I am not sure how to deal with the two that stand out so much. I'll probably put them side-by-side in the center, but I'm looking forward to seeing Judy's layout.

That's all that's on my design wall today - focus, focus, focus :)

Stash Report

I not only finished a top this week, but I managed to avoid picking up any new fabric while I was at the shop teaching yesterday.  Maybe I'm actually developing some will power where fabric is concerned.

Stash out this week:
Toes in the Sand quilt top - 5.5 yards
binding Single Girl quilt - 3/4 yards

Stash totals for the year:
465 1/2 yards in
174 1/4 yards out
Total: 291 1/4 yards in

Work in Progress

Next task on my list of projects - catch up on Tell it to the Stars mystery block of the month.  The last blocks I did were March, so I have some catching up to do here.  I spent part of the weekend working on these, and managed to get 2 months completed. Last night, another 1/2 month so progress is being made. But I think this may be on my wall for a couple of weeks while I work my way up to September.  By which time, October will likely be here :)

Here's my progress so far. The block in the center bottom may have to be re-made. The yellow/orange fabric is a batik, and that one block managed to get cut from a very pale section of fabric.  The block seems to fade away.

I'm linking up at Freshly Pieced, and the Needle and Thread Network today.

Design Wall Monday - Sept 15

I have a finished quilt top on my design wall today. I finally finished assembling my Toes in the Sand quilt, and added the borders last night. One more block of the month completed. I think I'll piece the backing from some of the leftover fabrics (I have a ton left).

Also managed to finish quilting the single girl quilt. Now I just need to bind it before the guild meeting at the end of the month.

Next up - my "Tell it to the Stars" block of the month/mystery needs to be finished.

Stash Report - Sept 14

I almost surived the week without enhancing my stash. But I came up with a plan for the fat quarter pack I bought last week, and it required a bit more fabric (of course).  So, 3/4 yards (3 more fat quarters) came home yesterday.

Crab Apple Hill - Whooterville Embroidery Quilt Pattern #283
I also picked up the cutest little embroidery pattern yesterday. This picture doesn't do it justice. Some of the owls in there are completely adorable.  I may not make all the blocks, but 4 or 5 would make a sweet little quilt.

In addition, I did bind 2 more quilts this week which used a yard of fabric. So I'm still heading in the right direction this week :)

Stash totals for the year:
465 1/2 yards in
168 yards out
Total: 297 1/2 yards in

Finishes

I finished 3 quilts this week. These poor things had been sitting around waiting for binding. Now that I've reconnected with the Victoria's Quilts to donate them, I figured it was time to get them finished.  So I made the bindings and attached them today. Amazingly, the fabric for the bindings was with the quilts and had not been used in a new quilt. That's probably because I'm not quilting as much as I was :)

I decided to machine stitch the bindings down, in an effort to get these done rather than creating a new pile of quilts that need binding hand stitched.  1/2 hour to stitch a binding on the machine, vs 4 or more hours by hand - you'd think I'd learn my lesson about this :)

I seem to be on a red kick.  This quilt was a mystery back on New Year's Day.  Nice simple, traditional pattern so I quilted it with a traditional baptist fan.

The back is pieced, using up some smaller bits of flannel that I had in the stash.

This was another mystery from back in January.  I made 2 quilts from this one. The smaller was finished some time ago, and the bigger quilt is now done and ready to donate too.

And this quilt was made from some orphan blocks that I picked up at a guild meeting from the exchange table.  I had lots of fabric left to make the bias binding to match the bias striped border I put on it this past spring.

Design Wall Monday - Sept 8

My design wall still has my Toes in the Sand quilt on it. A couple of rows are now put together, so it should be finish before long.  The side triangles were originally supposed to be a different fabric from the rest of the background, but when I put up the fabrics I had chosen, it was awful.  The edges were white, while the main background is cream. So I took those down and am going with a single background colour over the whole quilt.

Not much else going on in my sewing room these days, other than binding some of the UFOs I have hiding in there.  I keep trying to plan a new quilt, but guilt over all my unfinished block of the month projects keeps me from it.  2 more to finish from this year - and I foolishly signed up for one more last week.  I think that will be it for new BOMs this year, however.  My block of the week, and this new block of the month. Then maybe I can do something of my own once I catch up on the older ones.

Stash Report, Sept 7

I finished 1 small project this week, so at least my stash totals are continuing to go down. And while my purchases haven't stopped completely, I am exercising a bit of restraint there :)

1 1/2 yards for placemats
1 yard for backing
1/2 yard for binding on red anvil quilt

1 1/4 yards in (fat quarter pack)

Total this week: 3 yards out, 1 1/4 yards in

Stash totals for the year:
464 3/4 yards in
167 yards out
Total: 297 3/4 yards in

Work in Progress

I've been working to finish up one of my block of the month projects from this year. Finished all the triangles today. Now I just need to settle on an arrangement, and decide if I want one twin-size quilt (64x84") or two smaller quilts (64x42") for donation.

Design Wall Monday

Nothing at all is on my design wall today. But I do have a project in progress, all lined up on my sewing table waiting for the next step.

I also managed to finish a quilt this week.  Put the binding on it just in time for my son to sleep under it one night, before he headed off to university.  Last minute Mom :)
